Dec/7
Honestly, details are quickly fading away from me, so this email may be short (thank god, eh ? ;). Let's remind back to that day...
...woke up at 7 ish and wanted to brush my teeth...but because there was a lineup for showers and only one bathroom and my toothbrush/toothpaste is stuck inside, I was forced to wait...since I was a girl who does not like to waste time (i know some of you are rolling your eyes ;P), I went ahead and ate breakfast without brushing my teeth...feels funny. And because I am such a slowpoke, by the time I was done with breakfast it was almost time to go to work, so I didn't have enough time to brush my teeth. Instead, I ran to the bathroom (luckily it was empty, took out my toothbrush/toothpaste, stuffed them in my bag, and ran out the door...
Again, luckily for me, my workplace is less than 5 minutes away from the house...but unluckily for me, I wasn't exactly sure where it was located, even though we went there the day before. My work starts at 8, and I was by the building where I believe Chamber of Commerce was located...it was 7:58...I started panicking and saw two construction guys by the building. So I went to them and ask where Chamber of Commerce is, thinking that everyone should know because it's a small town, right? But noooo....these guys don't seem to know anything about Chamber of Commerce...one of them tried to send me to the town hall, which I politely corrected him that it wasn't where I want to go. Then the other guy said "Try and go behind this building...that may be it." He sounded unsure but I was willing to bank on it since a) I was late b)it sounded kind of right to me...so with a minute to spare, I ran to the back of the building and find Betty Ann standing by the door, smoking up a smoke (surprisingly, there are a lot of smokers in Blind River, and apparently Blind River has the highest death rate for cancer in Canada...i am not quite sure about that). I asked her whether I was late for work, to which she said, "no"...I went into the office, looked into the clock and found out I was 5 minutes early! (more like on time)
Soon afterwards, Betty Ann comes back and shows me around...I was brought into my office (MY OFFICE) where she started to set up my computer (MY COMPUTER) and my phone (MY PHONE) with my own extension (MY OWN EXTENSION)...it's a pretty sweet deal, having all these things as my own (for now)...especially the computer since I live in a house with a trashy computer that 11 other people share with. And haha, there is msn!!! As well, I also have 2 email addresses which I am supposed to use it for emailing the directors of the Chamber as well as its members. I also get an hour of lunch time, as well as break times that are equivalent to Betty Ann's smoke breaks (which I don't take, because what is the point?). So pretty much after she sets up the computer/office, and showed me the lunch room plus the washroom (which is actually in the doctor's office next door, so we share), she hands me the work to do
Wednesday workload:
1) Data entry of the invitees who are attending the AGM (annual general meeting), using spreadsheet
2) Photocopying 20 copies of BR+E (Business Retention and Expansion) report
3) Photocopying 10 copies of surveys
4) Photocopying 15 copies of something else
5) Simple file organizing
6) Emailing
7) Contact list organization
8) Constant walking back-and-forth from office room to lunch room for hot water/tea
As you can see, the workload is not very heavy at all (ironically enough, that was the day I did the most amount of work as of today (Dec/13)), and although I tried to be hardworking and always ask Betty Ann whether there are more work for me to do, in honesty there really isn't that much to do...in temptation from the lack of computer usage in the house (this is the main reason why I am so behind in my emails) I began writing emails to you guys, use msn, all the fun stuff...while chewing gum and listening to my MP3. Oddly enough, Betty Ann didn't say anything to me on doing any of the stuff (although I always immediately exit my msn conversation window whenever she comes in, haha), and when I asked her if it was okay for me to write emails/chew gum/listen to music, she said yes!!! (I feel weird about it though, because it's work after all, and totally not professional...but in my defense I do work hard when she needs me to...and I didn't ask her about msn just because a. it's really quite wrong to chat online while working, in my opinion and b. what if she doesn't allow me??...but then again, I do see her using msn while working ;)
I guess things work out in the end, because now that I have my own office at work plus the amount of free time, I can email you guys much more frequently, plus use msn and all that jazz, haha...which really gives me an edge over most of the Katimavik crew. For example, that same night we were talking about how our work day went, ranging from pretty good (Stephan in high school) to boring (Maxime - she said she tagged clothes for 6 hours)...but when I was asked, I got to say, "As an administrative assistant to the President of Chamber of Commerce, I have my own office with my own computer, my own email, plus my own phone line and extension...call me when you want. I used half of the day listening to music, emailing and talking on msn while doing adminstrative work. Now if you will excuse me, I have a report to read (yes, Betty Ann wanted me to read the BR+E report...it was 20 pages long)"...hahahaha, I feel like such an office lady ;)
Things to bring to work tomorrow
-CD collection for music (yay finally got to listen to my CDs)
-beauty products (hey an office lady needs to look good)
Goal
-write as much emails as possible, after doing Betty Ann's commands
