Hello hello
Ok let's get crackin'....lots of things happened to me throughout that time and I have a deadline to meet (Dec 8)...Let's Do This!
Nov 30
So as Emilie promised, we got to sleep until 11:00 am...however I woke up around 10:30 ish and the first thing I did was to take a shower. Meanwhile people starting waking up and slowly drifted into the kitchen, helping Emilie out with lunch/brunch. That's where I got to meet everyone in the house. Let us relive the introduction...
Emilie (Project Leader) - a short girl with crazy dreads. She comes from Grand Falls, New Brunswick, an Acadian region (French speaking). Emilie is a pretty free-spirited, relaxed, go with the flow type of person...before being a project leader, she was a tour guide in Mauritania and various other places. Her age is unknown, because she would not tell us (something about age being nothing but a number, blahblahblah...and that her boyfriend is super duper old...I just made fun of her and said she was probably afraid of being called a cougar, haha)
Rebecca (my roommate) - 18, from Scarborough/Toronto, Ontario. A very nice and sweet girl who just graduated from high school and got accepted to Guleph, but chose to defer it for a year because of Katimavik. Was a cheerleader in high school. Lives in the bottom bunk (sometimes we have toss/turn competitons at night, haha)
Stephanie (my roommate) - 18, from a small town (pop. 2000?) by Val d'Or, Quebec. A quiet girl with a poor-fair amount of English, but much chattier and fun once you get to know her. Her boyfriend is a guy from Morocco whom she met online (he is good looking!)
Mike - 18?, from Woodstock, Ontario. Relatively quiet the first time I met him, but...more on him in the future
Zach - 18, from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Just graduated from high school and like Rebecca, got accepted to Guleph but had his acceptance deferred also. You guys know how I feel about him ;) (there are things I must clear up though...more in the future)
Stephen - 19, from London/Brandton, Ontario. A pretty good guy who is musically inclined and enjoys country music. He can play several musical instruments, including banjo.
Charles - 21 (thank god i am not the oldest one! I thought I would be the living fossil within the group!), from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. Also very quiet, but he can understand lots of English. A nice guy, up for anything
Cynthia (aka sick girl) - 17, from Calgary, Alberta...a smart girl with things to say, but seems kind of uptight...if I must, I would classify her as the "nerd" type. (just to help you guys out with understanding, nothing else to it, i swear!)
Cheryl - 19, from Montreal, Quebec. She just finished her CEGEP (a school between high school and university) and she is a volunteer for St. Johns Ambulance (good thing, because should things happen to me (like choking) someone can help me). Probably is the most vocal with her English
Maxime - 17, from Quebec City, Quebec. A hot, tall blonde with oodles of energy and personality. She was a lifeguard and camp counsellor in Quebec. Overall, the stereotyped party-girl that all the boys want to have fun with.
There was supposed to be another girl coming in, but she decided to drop out the day before. Now we are all waiting for another girl to take her place...
Anyways we had lunch (tuna pasta salad for carnivores, pasta salad with beans and nuts for vegetarians like Emilie and Zach)...Emilie likes to do this thing where before lunch, we have to say thanks to whatever on this earth...because everyone just met, we were all pretty silent and apprehensive about the situation. So after that we ate, and people in general do not have big appetites, and Emilie and I ended up being the slowest eaters amongst the group (she was happy about that, because she would always having someone accompanying her). Honestly I wanted more food, but because everyone was done eating I felt wrong to eat more...this happened for at least 3 days, and I was never full. If this keeps happening for 9 months I think I will lose 20 pounds).
After lunch Emilie invited this guy called Bill, an 80-90 year old guy who was supposed to tell us the history of Blind River. He didn't do that but ended up talking about himself and his good old days as a Air Force soldier in World War II, plus his life in Blind River I guess if you look at the surface he may seem like your average old guy who talks too much, but at the same time he is passing on the spirit of Blind River - laid back and full of good times, if you know what I mean. After that was done Emilie sent all of us to the local community center to help out with cleaning up for some event that was going on, because the same crew of people helped out with renovating the Katimavik house. From that, we got lots of free food plus we got to meet Barrel/Borel, one of the head honchos from Missisaugai native reserve who was also one of our work placements.
When I was in the community centre, I started getting a freak stomachache (similar to the one I got in Borden during the beginning of the week, for you BMQ folks - the one where I eventually had to go to the base hospital for) so by the time we were done and went back home I chose to use the free time given to sleep in, and asked Emilie to pick up some Tylenol...I must have slept for 3-4 hours, but I felt better by the time dinner arrived, and had KFC chicken with sandwiches we got from the community centre...I was still eating less than I usually do because of the small-appetite atmosphere hanging in the dining room...
After dinner we had our first group activity - making a giant contract for house rules and all that jazz. Each of us have to come up with something representating ourselves/how people should deal with us, and write it in English and French (if you guys are confused - an example of Maxime's: "Respect my bubble/Respecter ma bulle). Unfortunately I couldn't come up with anything (part of the reason was because I can't really shake the idea that I feel lame doing it...:P), so I told Emilie that I would take a raincheck, which she accepted.
Finally, there is free time...Charles and Cheryl went out for a walk (too cold for me though) and others play cards. I was busy with something, then I used the house computer to clean out my MP3 music. By then it was pretty late, and people went to bed. I was just minding my business on the computer when all of a sudden I hear this knocking on the window...I jumped a bit, and saw Charles and Cheryl waving and pointing towards the door...apparently it was locked (which it shouldn't, because Emilie said curfew that day was 2:00 am) so I unlocked it and allowed them in...Cheryl was a bit upset that Emilie would lock the door when she said she wasn't going to...
I went to bed at 12:30 am
