Mass O Pt. II - Dec/3

Dec 3

So I had a good night's sleep, despite the fact that there were 4 other strangers in my room (both chatty girls were in my room). But they didn't, and woke up complaining about being cold/in pain...I can't blame them. The situation with 20+ people and 1 washroom was interesting, too.

After breakfast, we drove back to our meeting place and continued on with Mass-O. A lot of the information was just like dec 2, dry and redundant...i couldn't wait until lunch

Lunch time - this is when people from Blind River discovered that I have been hiding my appetite for all this time. I don't know what sparked it, whether it was pizza or the fact that it was done in a buffet style but I just kept going back and forth, back and forth...my crew was amused and shocked that for someone my size, I could eat so much (even Mike couldn't beat me, and he is 6 foot something). I could care less about the whole thing, now I am just glad they know the truth so I can dig in and be guilt free. But yeah, it's pretty funny, I must say...I am now affectionately dubbed "la poubelle" (look it up) by the frenchees, and "the stomach" by the anglos...plus they always offer me whatever leftovers they couldn't finish, haha

Because of my big meal, lack of movement, and warmth in the room...after lunch I just started nodding off, and as I was nodding off I was reminded the good old days of BMQ where the same thing would happen, and also thinking that perhaps I should excuse myself to downstairs, where there is a couch, haha...when Cara the leader of the Ontario head office of Katimavik suddenly said "ok, do you guys need a break or something? I need you guys to be with me here. Some of you are falling asleep on me..." Oops, hehe...some things never change, and at that moment I felt like I was in BMQ again...=) Oh yeah, I told Stephanie during break that I was nodding off during the presentation, and pretty soon the whole Blind River crew found out and were making fun of me for it ;P

So what ended up happening: we took a break, had tea, and I went out to the brisk cold for an equally brisk walk. Things were fine and dandy afterwards. We watched a video made by a previous Katimavik group, which was quite cute...one guy said Quebec is an endless supply of beer...excited to hear about that (rolls eyes), and then everyone did their performance. In general they were all pretty good, funny and informative. The Frenchees had the most going on with theirs, since they sang, danced, and did a bunch of other things...their unity is kind of scary...

I love it how each group play out the stereotypes of where they are from, yet at the same time give out interesting information. For example, did you know Wayne Gretzky comes from Brantford, Ontario (that's where Stephen was born)? Or because the Prairies is so flat that if your dog runs away from you you can see it running towards the horizon for 3 days straight?(hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha)

Well after that, it was dinner - I chowed down more pizza and salad with pleasure, then everyone had to clean up the building before we head back to our Katimavik houses (the building, or the community we were at for Mass-O, if you are interested to know, is called Sowerby - pretty much a bunch of farms smushed together...we can see horses grazing from the windows of the building).

Cleaning...which reminds me of a story you guys might like to hear. During dinner, Stephen and I were having pizza together and he accidently dropped his slice of cheesy broccoli/onions/mushroom/pepperoni pizza on the floor...he was like "darn it" and went to the kitchen to throw it out. When he came back he had this amused look on his face and told me that when he was about to throw the pizza away, the cook said "Woah, why are you throwing that fine slice away?" so Stephen told him that it dropped on the floor. Pretty much the cook just grabbed the slice from Stephen, brushed it a bit, and ate it in front of Stephen! Wow...strange...and truly the spirit of Katimavik...

So after clean-up was done (again, each group gets to keep extra food/condiments/etc), we all headed home. I think it was during this car ride back home that I realize our group was truly bonding together as the "Blind River crew", because everyone was just laughing, singing, goofing off, having fun...and the language barrier didn't really stop that (although the Frenchees had much more English than us with our French...shame...) Nine months with everyone should be good times.

Home/Free Time (don't remember what I did)/Sleep

Job Tour tomorrow...
