It's Saturday...and we are all heading for Mass-O (Mass Orientation). What it is is a giant meeting for all Katimavik people in our cluster (Elliot Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, Blind River) to learn about what Katimavik is about (rules, etc.) and for everyone in the cluster to meet each other.
Previously, Emilie told us to prepare something for introducing the Blind River crew during the Mass-O be it a play, speech, whatever...but her and our attitude about it was so relaxed that we had nothing planned for it, until we were driving towards the location (half an hour away from Blind River) and Emilie said we have to come up with something quick. In fact we were so nonchalant that she stopped at a gas station (it was -10 outside) and made us practice for something. So pretty much Stephen pulled something out of his ass and we decided to do the macerena while each of us sing and introduce ourselves, then ending it with a shout-out to both Elliot Lake and Sault Ste. Marie (Wuzzup Elliot Lake, wuzzup...wuzzup Sault Ste. Marie, wuzzup...) It's hard to explain, you just have to be there to see it and feel it and think it's funny because it's pretty much a bunch of kids who don't know what the hell they are knowing but are being crazy nevertheless.
The first part of the Mass-O was pretty much getting to know you kind of a deal...we played lots of games such as "The Wind Blows", "Follow the Leader", etc. It was fun and it's always great playing games that we once play all the time but then grew out of them because we were "too cool" and now we embrace them once again because they remind us of the times when we are truly free and unrestricted...
Apart from games, we also went through the usual crap (no couples allowed, no exclusive relationship with people or things, etc.) and learnt the "fun things" about Katimavik. In my opinion, much of the stuff they said at Mass-O were redundant and not totally useful, and therefore 2 days of Mass-O could be cut down to one. But I guess it's nice to hang out with people from other groups (or not, depending on the person) for that amount of time since we wouldn't see them for at least another 2 months. (Apparently Blind River/Elliot Lake/Sault Ste. Marie are going to stay as a cluster for 9 months and travel together, which according to them is a rare event).
As well, the people coming from their own region have to get together and create a little "something" about their region (me about BC) and present it to everyone. So a couple of us from BC (me/girl/girl/girl/guy), we again had to pull something out of our asses for Sunday's presentation. We decided to pretend that we are riding on the Skytrain, with one American tourist onboard and each of us telling the tourist about our locations (lucky for me, i get to talk about east hastings/weed/gangs, haha)...
What else can I tell you...oh yes because of the snowstorm, there was a possiblity that people from Sault Ste. Marie (half of them I don't really like because they were the girls who made me unable to sleep on the bus, and the other half are kind of weird) were going to stay in our house because it takes them 1.5 hours to go back to their house from the location. Lo and behold, their katima-truck pulled up onto our house 2 hours after we return to our house and that night there were 20 something people in an old house (my room had 6 girls sleeping in there). Well overall it wasn't too bad, but i do feel bad for those guys because they had to sleep on the floors, which was cold and hard...;P
One more Mass-O to go...
